Our Inaugural Council Meeting

Our Inaugural Council Meeting

On March 8, International Women’s Day, the EmpowHERment Project welcomed seven of its 14 Council Members for a full day kickoff and brainstorm on how we can give our industry’s talented women the tools they need to reach their full potential.

Council Members introduced themselves and shared their personal stories of how the women in their lives helped them become who they are today.

Lyndsey Bardnell, President of the EmpowHERment Project, introduced Ceiling Crashers, Frontliners, and Radgals, categories representing the influential women in our industry whose stories will be told through the EmpowHERment Project.

Lia Ames, Founder of Lunchology Miami, shared her own story and how she channeled each of her deepest fears into moments of positive personal transformation.

Council Members then split into diverse groups and were introduced to the IDEO brainstorm method, using two common industry personas as inspiration – a recent beauty school graduate navigating the next steps of her career path, and a stylist behind the chair with aspirations of becoming an business owner. The groups brainstormed tools, plans, and support these women would need as they laid they groundwork to becoming Ceiling Crashers, and discussed how best to refine and offer these resources to a wider audience as part of the upcoming Coterie conference.

The day wrapped with a preview of the forthcoming #HERpledge, a social campaign for our industry’s women to make a public promise to further the EmpowHERment Project’s mission in their own communities.

The Council will reconvene again in June in LA.
