Entrepreneur Magazine on Improving Gender Equality in the Beauty Industry

Entrepreneur Magazine on Improving Gender Equality in the Beauty Industry

Entrepreneur takes a look at the beauty industry, which has been largely exempt from the gender equality discussion in regards to female leadership positions, and argues that a light should be shone on a field that focuses on female consumers while primarily elevating men into leadership roles. This is an issue that, they say, negatively impacts both the company and their customers/clients.

Joy Chen, the Chairman and CEO of H20+ Beauty and guest writer on this article, points out that while the beauty industry is arguably better than others, women still only account for 29% of leadership positions in the field. Here are some steps she says we can all take to improve gender equality in the work force:

  • To start, be an example to young people by supporting women and demonstrating fairness. This will show them what positive gender dynamics should look like.
  • Volunteer with organizations that lift up young women.
  • Be a mentor for a woman looking to further her career.

More women in leadership positions have not only proven to increase a company’s bottom line, but it also just makes sense in an industry where the consumer is largely female. You can read Chen’s full article on Entrepreneur.com.
